AOS 3rd edition game 1

 Grushnag encounters the Stormcast


So the climax of turn one of the Animosity campaign for Kati and I was the first Clash of our new armies.

With the starter divide I went Orruks and Kati went Stormcast.  Both are very different from our other armies. Mine being Beast of Chaos, and Slaves to Darkness and hers being Nurgle. 

I did a little intro story for my forces which is will link here 

Our Forces came in at 1370 and 1355 respectably


 Were are painting units as we go with the campaign so I am sorry about all the white but my force consisted of:

I had a warlord and battle regiment core battalion. 


 Kati took her storm cast as Knights Excelsior and her Grand strategy was dominating presence.

We rolled for battleplan and got Apex Predator


The objectives are yellow and a bit hard to see. taken and holding objectives was a hero only task in the battleplan. While overall I am loving 3rd edition these scenarios the demand only certain units holding or capping objectives are not my favorite. 


Setup left us basically mirroring each other with our big heroes destined to do battle while the grunts waged a similar war.



Turn 1:

P: battle tactic: aggressive expansion: fail

K: Battle tactic: monstrous takeover: fail

P: cast boggy mist. Boltboyz all out attack, the praetors: one praetor took 2 wounds. 

Total: P: 2pts

K: cast stormcaller: succeed.

Annihilators enter, and do 2 damage to great gnashtooth, kill one boltboyz,and 1 gutrippaz.

Ranged attack Imperator: kill 2 boltboyz.

Ranged attack yndrasta: fail.

Charges: vindicators and lord imperative charge gutrippazs.

Annihilators fail their charge twice!!

Yndrasta charge gnashtooth.

Attack: vindicators kill 2 gutrippers, gutrippers kill two vindicators. Yndrasta does 3 damage to gnashtooth, gnashtooth gives 2 damage to yndrast. Lord imperative greyhound do a combined killing of 2 gutrippers. 

Total: K: 1 pts, P: 2pts

The blow by blow shows it all.  the highlight of the turn was the Annihilators failing to charge even with the reroll






Turn 2: 


P: battle tactic: conqueror  

K: battle tactic: broken ranks


P: cast failed.

Ranged: hobgrots do zero damage to yndrasta, boltjoyz do 2 damage to lord imperator.

Charge: hobgrots charge yndrasta, killaboss charge lord imperator.

Attack: killaboss does 1 wound to lord imperator. Vindicators kill 2 gut rippers, 2 left,  gnashtooth kills yndrasta. Lord imperatent does 1 damage to killaboss. 2 gutrippazs attack vindicators for 1 wound. Bravery rolls, lose 1 gutrippaz.


Total: P: 4, K: 1pts


K: Knight vexillor returns 2 dead vindicators to the field. Cast: mystic shield on vindicators.

Ranged: fail.

Charge: Vinicators charge gut rippers, Annihilators charge gnashtooth and explode killing gnashtooth leader, praetors charge hobgrots.

Attack: vindacators attack gutrippers killing 2,  killaboss does 5  wounds to lord imperator, praetors attack hobgrots killing all ten in the unit…:( ...murknob attacks the Annihilators killing 1: he explodes doing 3 damage to bannerman,  lord imperator kills killaboss, Annihilators attack murknob bannerman doing 2 wounds, gutrippers attack vindacators killing 2 vindicators who explode killing one gutripper, vindcators kill last gutripper. 

Battleshock: lose 2 gutrippers. 


Total: K: 4, P:4


This turn started off great for me with me quickly taking out Yndrasta, but after that it was all down hill. I lost unit after unit





By the end of the turn I was down to some boltboyz and a few Gutrippazs and I saw the writing on the wall.  Grushnag and his Slickboyz slipped off the field in a shampcalla mist to fight another day(well thats how I imagined it, it was really just me sadly moving my models to the side)

While not a very eventful game it did fell good to get out the dice again.  With me teaching kati 3rd edition even 2 turns took us a while.  I will be interested to see how the rematch turns out.

Gutrippaz join the fray

 Grushnags' Forces Muster   

For those who don't know Age of Sigmar which we have played for about 2 years just released its 3rd edition.  

With the start of the Animosity III Campaign  it was the perfect time and frankly excuse to start painting the forces that Kati and I got in the new Dominion box.  It covers two things I have wanted to do for awhile: start a destruction army(which the new orcs are exactly what I wanted) and get to be in the Animosity campaign that I missed last time. 

My self proclaimed Mega Killaboss Grushnag the Slick is itching to get the new Gutrippazs into battle.

Grushnag and his story will be included in his profile when I finally get him painted.

They are not based because I like to base the whole army together so sorry about that

Mission 1- Scenario 2: "Infected Trees"






Scenario 2 - "Infected Trees"

"Examining the bodies of the zombies, along with the other clues from the village, left little doubt. The village had been attacked by some horrific species of giant spider, whose venom reanimated the dead. Thankfully, such creatures move slowly. Likely, they will have retreated to the nearest shelter to slowly feast upon the missing villagers. Your duty is clear. Taking just enough time to patch up your wounds, and make a quick pyre for the dead, you set off after the spiders, following their faint, but unique tracks. After nearly a day’s pursuit, the tracks lead into a small forest. Chances are the spiders are not too deep in the woods. You must find them, destroy them and any nests they might have made, and, if you are lucky, rescue any survivors."




As the weary rangers crest a small hill, they see a small but ancient looking forest.
"This is the first forest we've run into in more than a day," Tem-Sin says.
Hassan replies, "Good place for a spider to hang out."
"Aye, they're in there," Hoffgar agrees.
The rangers unsheathe their weapons and proceed cautiously into the forest, quickly loosing sight of the tracks in the darkness of the forest.
Derrick, desperate to reclaim his pride, and that of Nora, he trots ahead of the group. He immediately spots a spider, and looses an arrow, missing entirely once again. He sighs, hoping no one else noticed.
Tem-Sin and Hassan spring into action. Spying the first cocoon, they make a dash towards it. As Tem-Sin runs, he casts his armor spell upon his two comrades. Hassan in the lead, smashes his halberd directly into the fleshy abdomen of the spider guarding the sack.



Hoffgar, Molly, and Bruce split off for another nearby cocoon.
Hoffgar laughs, "Hurry up lads, they can't take all the fun!"
Tem-Sin rips the cocoon open before to reveal a moaning zombie, which reaches out towards him. Hassan immediately comes to his defense, slashing the zombie's arm clean off, he then watches as the zombie shows no sign of stopping.
"Well that was close," Tem-Sin says.
"You owe me one," Hassan replies.


Meanwhile, Derrick carefully aims, he takes his time, and lets fly a true arrow...this time. It strikes a spider directly between its many eyes.
"I got one!" Derrick exclaims, louder than intended, "Did you see?"
The other group approaches another cocoon and quickly Bruce dispatches a spider lurking beside it, while Molly rips the sack apart..to reveal yet another zombie. Bruce reacts with the instinct of a seasoned brawler and cuts the head of the zombie clean off.
"My-lady," he says coolly. Molly sniffs, and gives no other reaction.


With Hassan and the zombie locked in combat, Tem-Sin doesn't notice the web trap until he walks right into it, entangling himself hopelessly.
Tem-Sin grunts in annoyance as he struggles to free himself.



Hassan destroys the zombie and helps Tem-Sin out of his sticky situation with a few well aimed slashes of this knife. The companions regroup and continue on, systematically disposing of both cocoon and spiders with ease.
Hoffgar coolly loads his crossbow and slays a lurking spider. Derrick repeats the scene with his own bow, and then he sees something glinting in the faint light beside the dead spider.
"Well well, what have we here?" Derrick exclaims, "A little bonus pay for me!"
Ahead they spot the looming nest trees.
Bruce says, "Lets put these nests to the torch and be done with this! I'm hungry!"
Tem-Sin, "Agreed, let us be done with this foul business."



"A survivor!" Bruce exclaims as he rips open the last cocoon.
"All this way and we've only one!" Derrick whines.
Molly, in the midst of burning a nest, replies sternly, "One is better than none."
"Aye lass," Hoffgar agrees.



As the smoke drifts around them, the companions huddle together and watch the fires burn.
Tem-Sin says, "We need to return to Tallis and report our findings immediately."
Hassan nods, "We've done all we can here."
Molly wraps her arm around the shivering survivor, "We need to get this poor soul back to safety."
With that the group begins to make their way south towards the capital.





 Scenario 2: Battle report 

Notes: 1 day pursuit of spiders, Track roll ( Tem-Sin failed with a roll 7), and a survivor roll by Hoffgar (roll 5)= fail.

Turn 1-

K- Derrick moves and shoots spider, Derrick (roll 12)/spider (roll 12)= miss. Tem-Sin casts "Split Cast" on Hassan/Derrick and cast "Armor" on them both, then moves into base contact with a spider. Hassan bases spider, Hassan (roll 21)/Spider (roll 19)= Spider killed.



P- Hoffgar cast armor on Molly and moves. Bruce moves into contact with cocoon. Molly moves.

Creature phase- all spiders move.

Event Card- Red Ace- 1 spider randomly at a table edge

Turn 2-



K- Tem-Sin move into contact with cocoon, opens (roll 16) = 1 zombie. Hassan move to zombie and attacks, Hassan (roll 18)/Zombie (roll 18)= no damage (tie). Derrick move and shoot spider, Derrick (roll 14)/Spider (roll 11)= spider killed.

P- Hoffgar cast strength on Bruce and move into contact with a cocoon. Bruce bases spider and attacks, Bruce (roll 20 crit)/spider (roll 2)= spider killed. Molly move and open cocoon= (roll 18=zombie).

Creature phase- Hassan (roll 14)/Zombie (roll 16)= Hassan takes 3 damage. Bruce (roll 20 crit)/ zombie (roll 13)= zombie killed. Bruce (roll 22)/Spider (roll 15)= spider killed. Hassan (roll 8)/spider (roll 7)= no damage.

Event Card - Red 4= Web= Web entangled with Tem-Sin.

Turn 3-






K- Tem-Sin roll fail, stuck in web. Hassan (roll 23)/Zombie (roll 17)= zombie killed. Hassan moves.


P- Hoffgar move and shoot crossbow at spider, Hoffgar (roll 14)/spider (roll 1)= spider killed. Bruce bases cocoon. Molly moves.

Creature Phase= N/A

Event Phrase- Red 5= nest tree added with 1 spider and 1 treasure token.

Turn 4-




K-Tem-Sin web (roll 2)= stuck in web!!! Derrick shoot spider, Derrick (roll 15)/Spider (roll 2)= Spider killed, Derrick move and base treasure. Hassan move and base tree.





P- Bruce open cocoon( roll 12)= survivor  and move. Molly move to tree and burn. Hoffgar move and reload.

Creature Phase= N/A

Event Card = Red 6= Ray of light , N/A no spiders.

Turn 5-

K- Tem-Sin Web roll= (roll 13) finally free!!! move and base cocoon. Derrick pick up treasure and burn tree. Hassan move and burn tree.

P- Bruce move and burn tree. Hoffgar move and burn tree. Molly moves.

Creature Phase= N/A

Event Card = Red 2= 1 spider added.

Turn 6-

K- Tem-Sin open cocoon (roll 6) =dead body. Hassan move and open cocoon (roll 3)= dead body. Derrick shoot spider, Derrick (roll 20 crit)/spider (roll 1)= killed spider.

Stop at end of round 6.

Mission 1- The Search: Scenario 1- "Deserted Village"

Mission 1- The Search

"It has been less than a week since the destruction of Lorenthia and the appearance of the Shadow Deep but, in that time, the world has seemingly gone mad. Reports of strange creatures, and evil, robed men are flooding in from all along the new border. Even with every soldier, ranger, and volunteer mobilized, the kingdom is stretched thin. Three days ago, a veteran ranger by the name of Aventine went out to investigate reports of an attack on a nearby village. He has not returned. Determined to find the missing ranger, you have gathered what companions you can and set off for the village. It’s an eight-hour hike over difficult terrain."



 Scenario 1- Deserted Village

"As soon as you came within sight of the nameless village, you knew that something wasn’t right. There was no sound of man or animal, no movement except for the gentle swaying of the trees in the breeze. Closer in, you could see bodies lying in the dirt and smell the stench of death. Undaunted, you covered your face and carried on. Whatever happened here, it was your duty to try to discover the truth, and, if possible, determine the fate of Aventine. You had just reached the center of the village, and were about to split up to search, when a horrible moaning sound came from all around."



After a near eight hour trek the rangers can finally see the village from where Aventine last reported.
The group enters the village, weapons in hand. "Lads there is something off about this," Hoffgar mutters cautiously.  By the time they reach the center of the village they are all completely on edge. "There are bodies everywhere, but what could have done something like this!" Hassan exclaims.
"That is what we are here to find out," says Tem-Sin. Hoffgar points, "Tem, that body over there looks familiar."
Just then they all hear moaning sounds from all around them. Tem-Sin yells, "Form a circle!"


Rising from the ground the dead begin to head straight towards them. 
"Wa..wa..WHAT are those!! Derrick stutters out.
"I don't know, but I plan on making sure they go back to being dead." says Hoffgar.
"We need to figure out what happened here quick before more arrive," Tem-Sin says pointedly
With that they all break into action.

Tem-Sin races over to the body that Hoffgar pointed out and rolls it over, only to have to step back as the zombie begins to move and swing at him.



Derrick fires an arrow at an approaching zombie but his shaking makes the arrow miss completely. After seeing Derricks miss, Hassan prepares to intercept the foul creature.


Hoffgar looks at Molly who has been completely silent up to this point and as he casts his armor spell on her, he asks,"Are you ready lass?"
Her answer comes in the form of her grimly chanting an incantation and launching a perfectly placed magic bolt that knocks the head off of a zombie.
"Yes" she says.  Hoffgar can't help but chuckle as he heads into the fray.



After dispatching a zombie near the town church Tem-Sin, Hassan and Molly begin frantically searching the village for clues as to what happened. Tem-Sin breaks open a house to discover some extremely strange tracks.

Hassan  rounds a corner and yells in a choked voice "I've found Aventine, or least what's left of him.  Molly turns a corner and shrieks as she stumbles onto a mutilated corpse.  "I've found something too! But no sword did this!"

As all this is going on Derrick is still standing where he was when the battle began, shaking, with a look of terror on his face.

Hoffgar and Bruce took the southern end of the village.  Hoffgar made it only a dozen feet before more zombies and a huge rat charged right at him.  Using his mighty two handed axe and a few tricks he was able to dispatch them with only a rat bite on his toe to show for it.

Bruce was trained to kill and that's what he did.  Charging straight at a zombie, he sliced through it, and then a rat tried to ambush him.

As he rounds a house, much to his surprise, he finds a villager still alive cowering behind a barrel. "Get up, lets go," Bruce hollars.
"...yyyoou mean fight them?!" Bruce looked at the man with a cold expression "Do you want to live? If so.. fight."

Right then another group of zombies attacked.  The peasant grabbed his hay rake and followed Bruce. Bruce watched in shock at the peasant swung his rake, stumble and left himself completely open to the zombie. The zombie grabbed the peasant and the poor farmer was no longer among the living. Bruce shook his head, "Huh guess I was wrong."


After a few more minutes of fighting the town was finally quite again. Hoffgar looked at Tem-Sin, "Well what have you concluded?"
"The Tracks, the bodies, the undead, it all points the the same thing. Spiders."
"This far south?  I have never heard of something like this so deep into the kingdom." Hoffgar says as he stares to the north.
"Spiders that make the dead come alive?!" questions Hassan.
"The undead here have a venom running through them that looks like spider venom I can only assume that it is the reason they are being reanimated. The appearance of the Shadow Deep and the events of this village cannot be just coincidence."  Tem-Sin explains as he draws some of the venom from a zombie.
"We must find these spiders and stop them before someone else is hurt!" Molly states matter of factually.
"And we will lass, their prints are easy enough to follow," says Hoffgar.
Derrick looks over, "Your kidding right? We aren't actually going to try to find them?"
Tem-Sin and Hoffgar ignore the comment as they gather up their stuff and begin heading north out of the village.  As everyone walks by the dumbfounded archer, Bruce puts a hand on his shoulder.  "Boss says we kill spiders then we kill spiders."  With that, Bruce grins at him with a smile like a leaking bucket and begins to follow suit.

Turn 1





K- Tem-Sin got to the clue- (roll 19)- clue=zombie appears, Derrick fires at zombie, misses.





P- Hoffgar cast "armor" on Molly, and move three inches. Bruce throws dagger at rat, misses. Molly throws magic bolt at zombie (roll crit 20), killed zombie.





Creature phase- Tem-Sin (roll 20 crit)/zombie= kill zombie. Hassan=kill zombie. Rat moves towards Bruce.




Event Card= Red 8= Terror. Derrick (roll 5) he is TERRIFIED!

Turn 2




K- Derrick/Tem-Sin move towards clue.

P- Bruce kill Rat, then moves into contact with a zombie. Molly moves twice. Hoffgar attacks zombie, parries, and steps back.



Creature Phase- Bruce/Zombie=zombie killed. Hothgar/zombie= no damage (H wins combat). Hoffgar/rat= no damage (rat wins combat).

Event Card= Red 3 - zombies (2 zombies enter two table edges randomly.)

Turn 3






K- Derrick shoots at zombie and misses. Hassan moves to clue, (roll 1). BODY OF AVENTINE!! (roll 4 fail, so no magic sword.) Tem-Sin move to door of building (strength roll 15) breaks door!

P- Bruce move towards clue. Molly moves toward a clue. Hoffgar/zombie= zombie killed.

Creature Phase- Hoffgar (roll 12)/ Rat (roll 14)= 3 damage to Hoffgar, no disease.

Event Card= Red 2= (2 zombies at random table edge).

Turn 4

K- Tem-Sin enter building and touches clue (roll 7)= strange tracks. Tracks discovered and nature determined. Hassan moves. Derrick shoots zombie and misses again.

P- Molly moves and touches clue (roll 10) finds mutilated body, survival roll (passes), and determines nature. Bruce touches clue (roll 6) =survivor found. Hoffgar (roll 3)/ Rat (roll 13)= 2 damage to Hoffgar and no disease.



Creature Phase- Hoffgar (roll 13)/ Zombie (roll 8)= Hoffgar uses "powerful blow"= zombie killed. Hoffgar (roll 17)/ Rat (roll 11)= rat killed.

Turn 5




K- Tem-Sin move out of building. Hassan move and attack zombie, Hassan (roll 21)/Zombie (roll 20) =zombie killed. Derrick move and shoot zombie, Derrick (roll 13)/zombie (roll 12)= 1 damage to zombie.

P- Hoffgar move to building door. Bruce (roll 16)/Zombie (roll 12)=4 damage to zombie. Survivor(roll 9)/Zombie (roll 14)= 4 damage to survivor (has 1 life left).

Creature Phase- Survivor( roll 10)/Zombie (roll 14)=survivor killed. Bruce (roll 16)/zombie (roll 14)= zombie killed.

Companion phase- Molly will move.

Event Card- Red 5- Giant Rat appears against building base contact with Hassan.

Turn 6

K- Tem-Sin move into Hassan's combat. Tem-Sin (roll 22)/rat (roll 9)= rat killed. Hassan stays put. Derrick move and shoot zombie, Derrick (roll 3)/ zombie (roll 5)= he misses shot.

P- Molly moves. Hoffgar strength test against door= pass, breaks door!! He touches clue (roll 13), finds a treasure. Bruce (roll 1)/zombie (roll 11)= no damage.

Creature phase- Bruce (roll 16)/zombie (roll 9)= zombie has 1 life left.

Event Phase- Red Ace= 4 zombies placed at starting zombie locations.

Turn 7

K- Hassan moves and attacks zombie, Hassan (roll 15)/zombie (13)=zombie has 1 life left. Tem-Sin move and attack zombie, Tem-Sin(roll 15)/ zombie (roll 5)= zombie killed. Derrick shoot zombie, Derrick (roll 7)/zombie (roll 5)= no damage.

P- Bruce(roll 3)/zombie(roll 19)= Bruce take 7 Damage!! Hoffgar pick up treasure and move out building. Molly moves twice.

Creature phase- Derrick with dagger at (-1) (roll 19)/Zombie (roll 9)= zombie dies. Bruce(roll 4)/zombie (roll 3)= no damage. Hoffgar (roll 3)/zombie (roll 8)= no damage.

Event card =Red 4 (n/a no more clues left to place something by)

Turn 8

K- Derrick shoot zombie, Derrick (roll 22)/zombie (roll 11)= zombie killed. Tem-Sin/ Hassan stay put.

P- Molly heal Bruce (+5). Bruce (roll 13)/zombie (roll 1)= zombie killed. Hoffgar (roll 2)/zombie (roll 7)= no damage.

Creature Phase- Hoffgar (roll 20)/zombie (roll 15)= zombie killed.
